Building sentences with three words!We are very good at retelling the story of "Brown Bear Brown Bear" to our friends.Describing the popcorn during our science lesson was fun! We enjoyed tasting some too.Our school counselor did a lesson on listening with our whole body this week.Lost in a good book...Sorting and counting during our math lesson...Writing numbers during math on paper and on the i-pads.Math stations keep us learning.Building math towers with our friends.Starting our day with math stations. Here we are working with numbers 1-10.This week we explored letters, compared uppercase and lowercase and even played name lotto with our classmates' names.Here we are doing some math with numbers up to 10 on our "pretend" bus.We like to play games with our friends to learn more about words.Some of our math is on paper and some is through hands on activities.See you at open house on Tuesday, September 11th @ 6:00. This will be the time to sign up for fall conferences which are coming up soon.I overheard some of my students describing the day we made gluten free play dough as "the best of my life"! We read the directions, measured and stirred and best of all, we made enough for the entire class to use.Here we are playing one of our favorite games for number concepts 1-5. We also pretended to be frogs and jumped on a giant number line. Then we thought about what came before and after the number that we landed on.Painting, building and reading, oh my! No wonder we are tired at the end of our days...Building our name puzzles was challenging but fun!Scientists use a lot of tools so we experimented with some of them. Here we are observing shells and rocks close up!We even made a list of all of our scientific questions!Here are our birthday month friends!Our name chart helped us to compare how many letters we have in our names and which names are long or short.Thank you for coming to watch our parade. We had a lot of fun waving and sharing our favorite books with our friends!Writer's workshop has begun! We are learning what writers do to be successful.We are focusing on numerals to 5 in math by playing games.We had a great start to the school year and it was exciting to meet all of you. I especially enjoyed the welcome walk so I could visit each of you at home. I wanted to let you know that we will have a special Kindergarten Storybook Parade on Friday, August 24th at 8:00. Parents will most definitely want to stay to take a picture and cheer on the new kindergarten classes as they parade down the hallways with their favorite books! Feel free to choose a book with your child from home or we will choose one from my collection at school. I captured a few precious moments from our first 2 days of school for you!Above are the beginning of our discussions for our social contract which is a very important document that the children sign. It is a promise to follow the agreed upon rules in how we teach our friends in kindergarten and how we treat our teacher.Good times were had by all!It was exciting to have our Moms and Dads visit kindergarten!We blew bubbles, made pictures with chalk and played a marshmallow game too.Our sight word game was fun and we sorted words into families.Signing beach buckets for our friends reminded us of summer!Mrs. Wear made some great hats with us that we wore to lunch!We had a busy but fun week with ice cream tasting and a picnic outside.Tomorrow is the last day of school! Where does the time go? I think we are ready for First Grade. It has been such a fun year.We can compare numbers in the teens now!Our study of plants has been exciting! We looked inside some Lima bean seeds and found baby plants. We also planted pinto beans this week and we are charting their growth inside our science journals. We think there are a few blossoms on our Jalapenos outside so it shouldn't be long before we have some to pick!Our ocean animal research has been really fun!Our lowercase letters are improving!Thank you so much for making me feel so appreciated last week! It meant a lot to me. I am cherishing my last 4 weeks with your kids. I love to see them enjoying learning, school and each other. Don't forget to come to our Cinco De Mayo party on Friday, May 4th at 2:00. The party will be near the picnic tables on the side of the school but you will need to sign in through the front office. We will be enjoying chips and salsa with vegetables grown by the kids.It was so exciting to see the chicks on Friday!We wanted to hold them but that would have scared them.Our math games were extra fun this week. We pretended to make spaghetti and meatballs. We had to count out the order and then our partner checked our counting.Our ocean animal research groups have been very interesting.Non-fiction books are perfect for getting all of our questions answered!Painting is always fun in kindergarten!A shout out to Mrs. Bamford for making the book fair so exciting!Precious moments...In science we are learning about how scientists like to classify animals and then we sorted ourselves according to which animal necklace we were wearing.We keep finding numbers with a ten and some more! Every day we find different ways to build these larger numbers and play games with them.The best game was our "teen" number hunt. We had to find all of the numbers and it took a while to find them all.Writing poems about colors and rainbows is wonderful!In social studies we are learning about how the world has changed. We make some butter this week by shaking some heavy cream until it thickened. Then we had a snack! Yum!We love to watch the first grade's chicks hatching! |
