Our ocean animal study has been going well. We are reading about ocean animals in groups, writing about the habitat, body parts, and food that our animals eat and making a mural to go with our writing so we can present to the class. It is fun to see the kids getting so excited when discovering new facts. Now that we are at the end of kindergarten, the kids are expected to write in sentences with some punctuation. What a giant leap forward!

Each group thought of ways to sort the two dimensional shapes and then we did a "gallery walk" to see all of the wonderful ideas!Coach let us borrow some of his hula hoops so we could think of ways to sort our three dimensional shapes that we brought from home!We are really enjoying reading our non-fiction books and learning about ocean animals. We are each creating a booklet that will include what we are discovering! We used the "show me" ap on our I-pads to create pictures of how we use technology today. We recorded our own voices with it talking about technology.Enjoy the beautiful weather everyone! We enjoyed writing letters to our new kindergarten students to let them know what makes school fun!We know about 2 and 3 dimensional shapes and we visited different shape stations this week!Poetry is for everyone! We are putting spaces between our words and writing down the sounds that we hear. We try to be brave when we write and read. Our first try at making butter was a disaster. After much shaking of the jar, we realized that Mrs. Carneiro bought half and half instead of whipping cream...The next day we tried again and WOW! We loved our butter on crackers. All of a sudden, the liquid thickened and a ball of butter formed inside our jar. All that shaking paid off!Our first graders hatched chicks this week. They invited us to visit and it reminded us that we won't be in kindergarten forever! First grade is looking like a lot of fun!We could hear the big "whoosh" of hot air going into the balloon behind us! It was so exciting! We watched out reading buddies launch their own balloon creations made from tissue paper high into the sky!Writing poetry with sensory images kept us tasting things like popcorn and pickles so we could write what we tasted, smelled, heard and felt so our poetry could "come alive"!Subtraction has kept us thinking hard in math! A big shout out to Aadit for winning first place at this weekend's math Pentathalon! |
