Exploring number concepts 1-10 by playing games! We enjoyed using all of our senses to explore objects in science. Our graphs turned out so nicely! We had so much fun counting collections with our partners!Making predictions when we read is a wonderful way to increase our comprehension. We learned that a prediction is just a "guess about what might happen next in the story" using the text and the picture clues.Lastly, I was very excited to meet the author of my favorite book, Annie Barrows, at Book People in Austin this week! I told my Cardinals that my husband and I visited Guernsey Island after reading her book because I fell in love with it from her story.
We made a chart with all of the attributes that scientists use to look at things very closely such as size, texture, shape, color and mass. One day we compared sugar and salt crystals and found it difficult to guess which was which because of all of the similarities. In reading we compared letters and sorted them by uppercase and lowercase, above the line and below, holes or no holes. That was fun!We are learning to stretch out the sounds in a word when writing and sometimes we even write words on our whiteboards. We also practice "read to self" so Mrs. Carneiro can begin to teach reading groups! Here are our beautiful math chains hanging up in the closet area. We talked about all of the numbers and how they were different. We put them in order too. Thanks for attending open house! It was so nice to visit with you. I enjoy teaching your children. We discovered who had birthdays in which months and took pictures together holding our birthday numbers! Did you know that we visited the library and Mrs. Bamford taught us a lesson on how to behave in and use the library? We were really excited when she let us check out our first books! They will be due every Thursday which is also our day each week to check out new books. In math we are learning number concepts 1-5 as we order numbers, play games in small groups and with partners. We are learning about letters and writing through activities with our names and stories about things we know about. We are working hard and are proud of our first attempts at writing.I'll be starting our digital portfolios for each child through See Saw this week. Look for an email soon to sign up. We look forward to being able to share some our work to your phone or email. Thank you for all of your donations of tissues and wipes! We will use them! |
