I hope that you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! It was really fun to watch the kids perform in the "Turkey Tango" program at school and they did a wonderful job. Our music teacher, Mrs. Martin is very talented.
Today our kindergarten students are arriving home with their "reading envelopes" which will contain a book that they have read with me at school. They need to practice reading their book each night until Friday and then return it to school. A new book will come home each Monday. Feel free to have the kids read their other favorite books as well. Make sure that they are pointing to each word if they are a beginning reader. We have included a helpful list of reading strategies for you to use to help your child progress.
Our field trip is coming up quickly to the Zachary Scott Theater. It will be on Thursday, December 8th. We will leave school around 9:30 and the show will begin at 11:15. Please send $8.00 to school by Monday, December 5th with a signed permission slip so your child will be able to attend. Only one parent helper will be allowed to attend because the seating is limited in the theater.
We are learning about rocks in science this week. In math we are comparing numbers 1-10. We are also writing each day and reading in various ways including with our fifth grade reading buddies, with partners, and with me in a small group.
I will be doing assessments for the next report card in the next few weeks before the winter break. Now that we are beginning to meet for regular reading groups, I will begin to move the kids up as needed.
Our counselor, Mrs. McCall will be teaching us a lesson on "Patience" this month and we will talk about it in class on a regular basis as we strive to understand this important trait.
I really missed the kids over the vacation and am thrilled to be back! Thank you for sharing your children with me.
Mrs. Carneiro
