I am hoping that you all had a wonderful and relaxing time with your families for Thanksgiving. I was so glad to have two of my boys home from college and our oldest, Nicholas visiting for San Francisco! I am looking forward to some really productive weeks at before Christmas break at school.
We have just completed our time unit in mathematics and will begin to learn about numerals into the thousands when we return to school on Monday. In writing the kids have been researching insects and we have been to the computer lab and used the laptops a few times to work on this. We will continue this writing project next week as the kids learn to write sentences from their research, rewriting what they are learning into their own words so that they can teach the other students about their insect.
In science we are learning about the patterns of movement and included in this we will learn about magnets and how they work. Social studies will keep us busy learning about the oceans and continents of the world. We will practice making and reading maps and learn about the cardinal directions.
Mrs. La Course came in and taught us a lesson on coding which the kids practiced with her. She will be in every so often to continue these experiences. The kids definitely enjoyed learning about coding!
Mrs. O'Brien is teaching second grade about the 7 habits of being a successful kid and the children learned about taking responsibility for their own happiness. It was a powerful lesson and you will probably enjoy their ideas. Look for these in the Tuesday folders!
My student teacher, Miss Jenkins has been adjusting to teaching all subjects and will begin to taper off her lessons this week. She will only be with us until December 11th and she will be greatly missed. She has worked very hard to learn the craft of teaching and I am excited to see what happens next in her life. The kids really enjoy working with her and she has so much youthful energy!
I will update the calendar for December and January so please check it out!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Carneiro
